I
was on top of my praise world last night when I attended a revival service at a
local church. The musicians and choirs
really set the mood for worship and praise.
By the time the preacher of the hour came forth to deliver the message,
I was in full gear. The message of the
night revolved around the story of the woman with the alabaster box of
expensive perfume and how she sacrificed her very best.
Of
course you know where my thoughts are going – let’s check our own giving
moments and motivations. When was the
last time you really sacrificed something that you don’t plan to give away in
the first place? How many times have you
resisted completing a much needed task because it was uncomfortable or didn’t directly
benefit you? Been guilty lately of doing
just enough to get by? All of these are
examples of not giving God our best. We
might think that we are doing fine because we attend church services, promise
to curse or drink less or give an occasional dollar to a street beggar; but are
we really making sacrificial giving to reciprocate the love that God showers on
us? Take a moment and think about the
last time you gave of ‘yourself’. Find a
way today to give of your best!
Every day is a good day; it is up to us to make
it a power-filled great day. Be blessed. Dr. JoAnn
