Don't Be Deceived!

I Corinthians 15: 33 – “Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.”
About 4:30 this morning I awoke to find my yard, driveway and street softly covered in a beautiful, shimmering blanket of snow. Yes, I live in Georgia and yes, it is snowing (again). We are known for our rain and muggy nights but this tendency for snow, ice and bitter temperatures is becoming an all too familiar trend. Needless to say my prayers are with everyone around the world experiencing climate change effects (from flooding to mudslides to soaring temperatures).
The meteorologists have warned us that while the snow is slowing down (and I can attest to how beautiful it appears) we must not be deceived because under that glistening layer lies deadly patches of black ice. It appears on the surface as if it is easily traversed but driving and even walking is dangerous. No matter how much tread is on your tires or how slowly you creep along; ice is ice and you will slip and accidents can occur.
In life, we too must be weary of how things appear on the surface. Paul tells the church at Corinth that they must be on guard about being deceived by behaviors. If evil was to come at you full-face with teeth bared and claws showing you would have very little problem avoiding and even rebuking its presence; but we all know that evil comes to steal, kill and destroy and therefore it will use stealth and deception to draw close to you. Listen intently and watch diligently the words and actions of those who are trying to influence you. If their walk and talk does not mimic the life of Jesus, be on guard.
God instructs us to stay in the path of righteousness; but if we linger around those who do not know, acknowledge or respect God we might become corrupted. Even the strongest (in the Spirit) can be affected over a period of time if we are not careful. Evil never lets up. We must never give up or give in.
“Every day is a good day; it is up to us to make it a GREAT day. Be blessed! Rev. Dr. JoAnn
