Hebrews 13:4-5 – “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”[ 6 So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”
In my childhood my dad and I loved to watch old spaghetti westerns and I remember the famous showdown scenes where the gunslingers would meet at high noon for a shoot-out. Often the conflict started with one group in opposition to another at the local saloon. Everyone would be talking a bunch of junk, a bar fight would breakout and tables and chairs and fists flew everywhere. When the dust finally settled all the rabble rousers had fled the scene and there stood the lone sheriff who had to defend the sanctity of the entire town when everyone else had left.
Isn’t it good to know that no matter what type of situation we are in or about to face God never leaves us standing alone. We never really have to fight the good fight either…we just need to put on our whole armor and show up. The battle belongs to God and he never backs down.
Whatever force seems to be pressing you into either fight or flight do not be dismayed for our God never leaves nor forsakes us. And not only does he stand his ground with us; but he brings goodies. Remember, he prepares a table before us in the presence of our enemies. Do not be afraid of the arrows by day or the crafty uncertainties that creep in from the darkness of the evil one – know and trust that God is ever present. He is Jehovah Shammah.
