Memories Old and New

1 Samuel 20:23 - "And about the matter you and I discussed—remember, the Lord is witness between you and me forever.”
This was homecoming weekend for my Morehouse/Spelman cohorts. We enjoyed reuniting and celebrating our college days with meetings, parties, game-day antics and of course, sharing fond memories. Each year we look forward to seeing each other and sharing pictures of new grandchildren or the rewards of early retirement. We enjoy watching each class try to outdo the other with who can have the most posh tailgate set-up. (class of 1979 ROCKS!) But all in all the best part is that we get to come together and create new memories.
We bring out the class year books and photo albums on our phones, we talk about old flames and unforgettable parties, cranky professors, zealous dorm resident assistants and former kings and queens of homecoming.
Regardless of the jaded talk and the slanted recollections of the real facts, the best thing is that we were all witnesses to some of the best times in our lives. Good, bad or indifferent we love getting together even if only once a year to say - "Thanks for the memories".
By now most of us are returning to our regular routines. Whether you spent the weekend hanging with the 'old crew' or working a double shift, forge ahead into this new week and make it memorable for yourself and someone else. Be of good cheer, share moments of joy, speak peace into a situation, share a meal, make a phone call, and make a memory.
Every day is a good day; it is up to us to make it a GREAT day! Be blessed! Rev. Dr. JoAnn
