Acceptable Offerings

Amos 5: 22-23 – “Even though you bring me burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them, though you bring choice fellowship offerings, I will have no regard for them. Away with the noise of your songs, I will not listen to the music of your harps.”
What a pity it would be to get all dressed up for a party, wrap up a nice present, start singing celebratory songs only to have the special guest clamp their hands over their ears, refuse to accept your gift and prefer that you not remain in their presence.  Well that is what God does when our fellowship is not genuine.  No one likes to be ‘played up to’ or placated through vain ceremony.  We all want expressions of love and respect to be sincere.  So remember that while we can smile and pretend and display what appears to be authentic demonstrations of love toward others; we cannot fool God who looks at the human heart and the motivations for our actions.  Be straight with him, if you are hurting, disappointed, ashamed, or confused, tell him and ask for his guidance to alleviate those feelings.  If you are frustrated, challenged or angry, do as David did and go before his presence with sincerity and watch the Holy Spirit shepherd you into the right thinking that will make your worship experience valid and real.  Offer unto God your very best and he will accept it.

Every day is a good day; it is up to us to make it a power-packed GREAT day! Don’t be distracted; stay focused on your purpose! Be blessed! Dr. JoAnn
